Chic City Wedding Ideas with a Studio 54 and Solange Knowles White Wedding Vibes
Solange and Alan did it, Olivia Palermo and Johannes did it… they all married in white.
If you’re having a winter wedding where almost all of your celebrating will take place inside and you don’t want a Christmas or a typically wintry theme, or if you just want fresh and modern wedding day styling ideas, then this is for you.
Think of the tres chic fashion of the rockstar in the 70s… think Halston, David Bowie in suits, Diana Ross and Bianca partying at Studio 54, with low-cut jumpsuits, simple long dresses, shaggy jackets, and some film star bling, and all the fun they had. Myself and my magnificent creative partner, Heidi, who makes modern day hair accessories ( visit gloriousbyheidi.com ) had the creative urge to make that part of the 70s come alive as a 2019 wedding using Solange Knowles and her fabulous wedding day style as our muse.
We bring you –
Cool and effortlessly chic city wedding inspiration for the playful modern couple with a fondness for a pared back, fluid look and a relaxed fun feel on their wedding day with a touch of quirkiness.
Imagine artichokes in your bouquet… white disco balls as mini vases… shaggy rugs on your table and chairs… a wedding jumpsuit… cocktails and profiteroles… wearing a modern day disco hair halo… funky neon, champers and velvet…
The shoot is about a stylish couple who love to dress up in different outfits for their day and evening. They want to have fun and wear light, easy clothes that they can dance and move around in. The bride wears a wedding jumpsuit (Carson by Charlie Brear) with gold accessories and a cape a la Solange, then changes into the flowing Charlie Brear Pallas gown with a plunging neckline and sexy thigh split for her evening look while her groom goes from clean white to a lush subtle gold velvet suit with black accessories.
For this kind of wedding, the setting and feel of the wedding venue and its surroundings had to be right. Heidi chose The Castlefield Rooms, a sophisticated urban wedding venue near Manchester city centre. The Brindley Room with its warm wooden floor, full windows to one side and pale walls provided us with the ideal space to create the whole look. Wedding venue stylist, Emily, loves big empty
Stylist Emily alongside ground breaking florist Sam Williams (can we just take a moment to admire artichokes in a bridal bouquet) put together the coolest wedding day setting this side of the Atlantic.
Fans of all kinds of sweet delights, we researched favourite desserts of the 70s, and found profiteroles. Rachel of Marie Antoinette Cake Design not only made and decorated subtle profiterole towers, she handcrafted the sugar fern on the main cake, and iced round biscuits in white and gold. As you will see, the dessert table is a design feast in its own right.
Ferns, glitter balls, a touch of neon lighting from Stacy of Love Lights The Way, smoked Martini glasses, Monstera leaves and a palette of whites, natural greens and golds, with gold votives and candles from Savon Claire adding luxe and warmth, we kept the styling for the day a long way from 70’s kitsch, and all the way to 70’s chic.
