Your Bowcliffe Hall Wedding Photography

As a wedding photographer interested in design and style, I was already aware of this magnificent Georgian country house set in 38-acres at Bramham (where the annual Leeds Music Festival takes place each Aiugust Bank Holiday weekend) whilst living in nearby Thorner. Photographing here with couples who want a Yorkshire wedding venue that’s very tastefully different is a dream.

Having photographed there many times, I can heartily say that each area of Bowcliffe Hall is spectacular and designed and finished to the highest level.

The Art Deco bar in the Ballroom

With the classic stone exterior and ceremony room, it’s Georgian ballroom with Art Deco bar, a deluxe 1920s style Drivers’ Club bar and the stunning, modern and highly innovative Blackburn Wing nestled in woodland and with beautiful gardens in every season, a wedding day at Bowcliffe Hall will be remembered forever.

It offers so many options for beautiful wedding pictures in many different styles to suit your own tastes. Come and see what your wedding and wedding photos could like if you marry at Bowcliffe Hall…

Arriving at Bowcliffe Hall

Let’s start with that turn through the grand gates onto the Hall’s driveway… you will first see an expanse of tranquil green lawns and grand trees and the front of the striking Grade II listed Georgian Bowcliffe Hall itself.

The main building has that wow appeal as soon as you arrive. You might get glimpses of quirky signs and the statue of Alice in Wonderland with an accompanying quotation as you drive in. Your guests will park to the left and you’ll continue to the right and along the main building in your wedding car if it’s your wedding day. Straight ahead, you might even see a vintage aeroplane…

As you might expect the main entrance to the hall is grand and impressive. With space for that magical reveal to parents, your wedding party or that first look to your fiance / fiancee of your completely gorgeous self in your wedding finery first look, you could also return to this quiet spot for some couple or family portraits later on.

The Chapel at Bowcliffe Hall

Did you know there is a cute and cosy chapel tucked away amongst the gardens at Bowcliffe where you can have a small gathering of 12 and have your marriage blessed? It’s a pretty tight space for much other than close-up photographs but the light is warm and there’s room just outside for some family group photographs.

Your Wedding Breakfast at Bowcliffe Hall

As you have exclusive use of the hall, there are various options available to you when it comes to where you and your guests sit down to your wedding meal and speeches

And you are able to create a bespoke menu with Bowcliffe’s talented executive head chef.

The Blackburn Wing at Bowcliffe Hall

The award-winning Blackburn Wing is an incredibly innovative and chic building nested in ancient woodland in the gardens of Bowcliffe Hall. With its aeronautical architectural style – it is literally shaped like an airplane wing – it pays homage to aviation pioneer, Yorkshireman and former owner of Bowcliffe Hall Robert Blackburn and is a unique and extremely stylish space.

Described as a “2,000 sq ft treehouse” and “aviation meets treehouse”, it’s clad in shimmering copper and rests on columns over a falling slope in woodland, in effect suspending it in mid-air.

Think luxury vintage aviation meets Italian design with plenty of exposed structure, metal, glass, leather and wood. And there you have a very stylish modern space to be part of your wedding celebrations. I love the Blackburn Wing – it will wow your guests and will give you wedding photographs unlike any others.

A light space with wooden floors and large windows, you can have this unique space styled to suit your individual theme.

Robert Blackburn lived in Bowcliffe Hall and designed and built early aeroplanes at a factory in Leeds. His first powered flight took place in 1909 leading to him forming the Blackburn Aeroplane Company. He owned Bowcliffe from 1917 to 1955.

Its elevated position and floor to ceiling glass windows and doors to the front and sides give the Blackburn Wing extensive views over the trees and to the valley and open countryside beyond. A decked wooden balcony wrapping around the three sides lets you and your guests enjoy its position and views to the full and creates great opportunities for unique wedding photographs.

Inside, the curved and cantilevered structural wooden beams become visible. The classic early aviation design theme is continued with plenty of metal panels, brown leather, oak floor and structural aircraft parts incorporated into bespoke Italian furniture to support the glass topped tables and bar.

The table and the bar were specially commissioned from Milan. The metal frame of the aeroplane wing table you see in the gallery below was part of an aircraft wing and the metal cowling from the jet engine of a 747 supports the bar.

It takes your breath away with its design and style, its location and its views.

Your Evening Reception

With the flexibility to use the different spaces at Bowcliffe, you are spoilt for choice If you have had your wedding breakfast in the Ballroom then you may want to host your evening guests in the Blackburn Wing – or do the opposite. You can also both dine and dance in the Blackburn Wing if that space is exactly your vibe. Add in the Drivers’ Club and you have a lot of options to create the wedding day you want.
